Breaking the servant robot mold, concept designer Paul Grader
offers an interesting vision of robot behavior with
Pushya and Pullya.
This pair of mechanical companions deliver both helpfulness and
mischievousness.
Pullya follows instructions, does the chores on time, is predictable,
and knows how to make you happy.
Pushya on the other gripper, might wander off, sell your electronic
goodies on the street corner, and knows what buttons to push to make you
furious.
The idea of good or evil is not easily pinned on modern
conveniences such as our dish washers and vacuum cleaners,
but since many human parents can relate to this type of situation all
too well,
asymmetrical behavior from our future assistants might
actually help us connect and accept them as more than mere machines.
