Little Bird UAV Makes Successful Flight

Posted 13 Jul 2006 at 19:30 UTC by The Swirling Brain Share This

Boeing Company created a UAV called Little Bird which flew successfully unmanned for the first time. The Little Bird is a demonstrator helicoptor that lifted off from a helipad, flew a pre-programmed mission for about 20 minutes around the proving ground then landed within 6 inches of its programmed destination. The UAV includes integrated weapons systems, sensors and a ground control station and can be deployed for either manned or unmanned operation. The UAV can be used for armed intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance missions. This technology will likely be applied to the Boeing-produced AH-64D Apache Longbow multi-role combat helicopter.
