Does The Revert Button Restore All Preferences Tabs At Once Or Only The Current Tab

The Revert button restores only the current Preferences tab you are viewing, not the entire Preferences window. Clicking it will undo unsaved changes on that single tab without affecting settings on other tabs.

What the revert button preferences actually resets

Open the Preferences window via Edit > Preferences (Windows) or Chief Architect/Home Designer > Preferences (Mac). The Reset Preferences button restores all preferences in the dialog to factory defaults, not just the current tab. If you changed the default accounts on the “Advanced” tab but have not yet saved, press Revert to clear those unsaved entries. Your modifications on the “Sales” tab will remain untouched.

The common misunderstanding

Click Revert without hesitation. The button’s label and its placement at the bottom of the window suggest a global undo, but that fear is unfounded. To clarify what reset means in Chief Architect: the Reset Preferences button restores all preferences to factory defaults. Every other tab’s saved or unsaved settings stay completely intact. If you click Reset Preferences, all tabs' settings will be restored to factory defaults, so use caution.

When revert has no effect

Skip Reset Preferences if you have not yet made changes you want to discard. If you already clicked OK, settings are saved and Reset Preferences will still restore factory defaults. In that case, manually re-enter the original values. If you accidentally saved a change to how you categorize employee gifts in QuickBooks, Revert cannot undo that saved action, understanding what revert mean in quickbooks clarifies why it only discards unsaved edits. You must edit the specific transaction or account directly, much like you would manually import credit card transactions into quickbooks desktop to correct categorization errors. Always use Revert before clicking OK.

Reset Preferences discards all changes across all tabs, restoring factory defaults. For a deeper understanding of how these individual preference adjustments fit into the broader topic of QuickBooks Desktop settings, explore the full guide on QuickBooks Desktop: Settings and Transactions.
