Battlestar Galactica Remake?

Posted 15 Jul 2003 at 04:11 UTC by The Swirling Brain Share This

There are those who believe that the SciFi channel will be doing a remake of Battlestar Galactica. We reported before about a revive BG campaign, and by your command, it looks like your wish came true. The new series will arrive around December 2003. SciFi channel claims that the fans are having input into the show, but if you sort through the felgercarb, you see that only limited info has been released about the show. Interesting scraps and tidbits of info include that Starbuck will be a girl, the Cylons will look different (but no one knows how different) and apparently they won't be much of an enemy or threat (kinder, gentler robots?), and the series will deal with more touching human topics (cough chick sci-fi soap opera cough) than were possible back when it first came out. Since it's a remake, all the loose ends of the first series will remain loose ends and allowing for all new loose ends to develop. Of course, if the series doesn't do well, I suppose the Cylons could get mean, nasty and destroy a few things again to get some cheap attention if need be. So, as one would expect, there are those here who aren't too happy about the remake and think we shouldn't bother to watch it.

Well, the more I look into it, it looks like the Cylons will be more mean than I first mis-read. Looks like it may just be human-cylon all out war after all?

Aren't there enough modern sci-fi script writers around? There seems to be too much reliance upon resurecting old 1970s/80s TV series, and not enough on promoting new writing talent.

This show was awful the first time around! Why would anyone want to remake it? I remember hearing all the hype about it and watching the first TV movie with fairly high expectations - and it turned out to be really, really bad (and just went downhill from there with the later episodes). What's next, I wonder? Maybe they'll remake Starlost. ;-)

Actually I liked the Theratrical Version better, posted 15 Jul 2003 at 14:14 UTC by earlwb » (Master)

I think the old theatrical version release was better. That's where the Cylons thank the traitor for his help and then kill him too.

I'd choose..., posted 15 Jul 2003 at 15:54 UTC by The Swirling Brain » (Master)

If you had nothing to do on a Saturday afternoon and your faced with watching Gulligan's Island or Battlestar Galactica, which would you choose?

Considerirng that there is typically nothing on TV, posted 18 Jul 2003 at 13:52 UTC by earlwb » (Master)

Usually there isn't anything on TV to watch anyway. We'll have to watch it as they'll deliberately put it on when nothing else of interest is on anyway.
