Gerald V. Casale of DEVO has teamed up with Moimir Papalescu and Petr Venkrbec of Die Alten Maschinen, the electronic music pioneers of the Czech Republic. The first result of this collaboration is a devolved electronic composition called "To Be or Not". While not available on CD yet, the single is available on vinyl for the retro crowd and from iTunes or Amazon MP3 Downloads for those who prefer their music in noncorporeal form. We suggest hopping on over to Die Alten Maschinen's MySpace page and listening to the new song right now. The image above is the vinyl album cover art, created by Czech artist Adolf Lachman. Yes, that robot is using a DEVO hat as a flower pot.

I usually like the music I see here at robots.net and I wanted to like this track. This one is to me at best so-so. I can certainly hear the devo sound but the song is sort of empty and de-evolved from devo. :'-( Not something my devo brain will listen to over and over. From the myspace hit stats it doesn't look like many went on to listen to the other tracks. :-( It's probably too late to say this but thanks for bringing it anyway because I always like to hear the new robot music you provide good or bad.

Yeah, I don't like all the robot music I stumble across myself but it's still fun seeing robots influencing popular culture that way. Plus I'm a big Devo fan. :)

Actually, I think this reminds me of some of the classic DEVO from the late 1970s, back in their PAIA synth era. After listening to it a few times, it kinda grows on you (or maybe causes irreversible brain damage that leads to you liking it, not sure which).
