New Website Helps Students Find a FIRST TeamPosted 28 Oct 2007 at 22:25 UTC by steve
If you're a student who'd like to join a FIRST robotics team but your
school doesn't participate, there's a new website just for you. The
new website, called First
Objective, can
help you find a team at a nearby school or even help you get a team
organized at your own school. Roger Smith wrote to tell us how he
started the site to solve a problem for his own kids, "I am the
father of two high-school students that are involved in FIRST. Our
school does not have a team, so we work with a neighboring school, and I
am a mentor on that team. I have been working real hard to get a team
started in our school, and hopefully get more teams started in a lot of
schools. I've created a website devoted to bringing together people in
the FIRST community with educators and school administrators. I'm using
the Internet to provide video content along with forums and blogs to
help bring these groups together." Robotics is becoming an important
route to getting kids interested in math, science, and engineering, so
stop by and offer to help out with Roger's efforts if you get a chance.
Thanks to FIRST Objective, for getting the word out about starting new FIRST teams.
