i-SOBOT May Have Flashable ROMs

Posted 1 Nov 2007 at 03:39 UTC by roschler Share This

Lem Fugitt at Robots Dreams has uncovered what he is calling a strong rumor regarding the hackability of Takara/Tomy's i-SOBOT robot. It appears that the initial production runs of the 6 1/2 inch tall fully articulated bipedal robot may have flashable ROMs. Since ROMs usually store interesting bits such as sounds and potentially even more interesting data items, this opens up the door for hackers to alter the i-SOBOT's functionality. Of course, this requires the proper equipment for ROM programming and the willingness to absolutely void your robots warranty. You can find the full story on his blog.
