To make Discord show what game you're playing, you need to enable the Game Activity feature in your User Settings. This guide walks you through turning on the game activity status, manually adding games that aren't detected, and testing that your game is displaying correctly.
How to turn on Discord's game activity status
- Open Discord on your computer and click the gear icon at the bottom left to open User Settings.
- In the left sidebar, scroll down and click the "Game Activity" tab.
- Toggle on "Display currently running game as a status message."
Once enabled, Discord will automatically detect supported games and show them on your profile. You can also choose to make a stage in Discord for voice conversations while you play, but that is a separate feature from game status.
What to do when Discord isn't showing your game
If your game isn't appearing, first make sure your Discord client is fully updated. Discord releases updates that fix detection issues, so running the latest version is essential. After updating, restart Discord and launch the game again.
The most common fix is to add the game manually. Discord only auto-detects verified games, so many titles, especially indie games, emulated games, or older titles, won't show up automatically. In the Game Activity tab, look for the "Not seeing your game?" section and click the "Add It!" button. A search box will appear; type the name of the game and select it from the results. The game will then appear in your "Added Games" list, and you can toggle it on to display as your status.
If the game still doesn't show, check that the game is running in windowed or borderless windowed mode. Some fullscreen exclusive games can block Discord's detection. Running the game in windowed mode or launching Discord as an administrator can resolve this.
How to test that your game is showing
Launch the game you want to display and open Discord. Click your own profile picture or name at the bottom of the Discord window to open your profile card. Under your username, you should see the game's name and icon as your current status message. If it appears there, your friends and server members will see it too. If it doesn't appear, revisit the Game Activity tab to confirm the toggle is on and the game is listed in your Added Games.
