To download Kindle on PC, go to Amazon's official Free Kindle Reading Apps page and download the installer for Windows. If you are using Windows S Mode or an unsupported operating system, use the Kindle Cloud Reader in your browser instead.
How to download Kindle on PC from the official apps page
Open your web browser and navigate to Amazon's Free Kindle Reading Apps page. This is the only official source for the Kindle for PC app, ensuring you get a safe and up-to-date installer directly from Amazon.
Step 2: Download the installer
On the Kindle apps page, locate and click the "Download for PC & Mac" button. This will begin downloading the installer file (a .exe file) to your computer. Save the file to a location you can easily find, such as your Downloads folder.
Step 3: Install the Kindle app
- Open the downloaded .exe file by double-clicking it.
- If a security prompt appears, click "Run" or "Yes" to allow the installation to proceed.
- Follow the on-screen installation instructions. Accept any prompts and complete the setup process as directed by the installation wizard.
Step 4: Sign in to your Amazon account
After installation, launch the Kindle app from your Start menu or desktop shortcut. Sign in with your Amazon account credentials to access your Kindle library. Once signed in, you can enjoy features like bookmarking, highlighting, note-taking, and an integrated dictionary. The app also supports buying, borrowing and downloading audiobooks and ebooks, giving you full access to your digital content.
What if the app won't install?
If you are using Windows S Mode, or if your operating system is not supported, the Kindle for PC app will not install. In this case, use the Kindle Cloud Reader in your web browser as an alternative. The Cloud Reader works on any modern browser and gives you access to your full Kindle library without needing to install software. Note that performance of the Kindle for PC app may lag on older computer systems, so the Cloud Reader may also be a better option for those machines.
