To change accounts on Netflix, you must sign out of the current account and then sign in with a different email and password. This process works the same whether you want to switch to a friend's plan or your own second subscription, and the steps vary only by the device you are using. How to change accounts on Netflix by signing out
Changing accounts on Netflix always requires signing out of the current user and signing in with a different one. You cannot simply switch accounts by selecting a different profile; profiles exist only within a single account. To use a different Netflix subscription, you must first log out of Netflix completely on your device, then enter the new email and password. The sections below provide device-specific steps for signing out.
Sign out of Netflix on a smart TV or streaming device
To sign out on a TV, streaming stick, or game console, use your remote to navigate the Netflix app menu.
- Open the Netflix app on your TV or streaming device.
- Press the back button or left arrow on your remote to open the side menu.
- Select Get Help or the gear icon (Settings).
- Choose Sign Out or Sign Out of Netflix.
After signing out, you will return to the Netflix sign-in screen, where you can enter the credentials for a different account.
Sign out of Netflix on a mobile phone or tablet
On an Android phone, tablet, iPhone, or iPad, the sign-out option is found in the app's main menu.
- Open the Netflix app on your device.
- Tap My Netflix in the lower-right corner of the screen.
- Tap the menu icon (three lines) or your profile name at the top of the screen.
- Select Sign Out from the menu that appears.
Once signed out, the app will return to the login screen, ready for a different account. If you need to get Netflix on a new device, simply download the app from your device's app store and follow the same sign-out and sign-in process.
Sign out of Netflix on a web browser
Signing out on a computer is straightforward, and you also have the option to sign out of all devices at once.
- Go to the Netflix website and ensure you are signed in.
- Click your profile icon in the top-right corner, then select Sign Out from the dropdown menu.
Alternatively, you can sign out of all devices remotely. Go to your Account page, scroll down to Settings, and click Sign out of all Devices. This is useful if you have lost access to a device or want to ensure no one else is using your account.
Sign in with a different Netflix account
After signing out on any device, the final step is to sign in with the other Netflix subscription. On the sign-in screen, enter the email address and password for the account you want to use. If you need to get Netflix for yourself, visit the Netflix website to start a new subscription, then use those credentials to sign in. Once signed in, you can select a profile within that account and begin streaming.
