According to an Atlanta Journal Constitution article, Rufus O. Terrill has had it with drug dealers, thieves, and vandals who roam the streets outside his downtown bar, O'Terrill's Pub. His solution? A teleoperated robot built from a three-wheeled scooter and an old meat smoker ("it smells like chicken' but it'll still hit ya'!"). He equipped the robot with infrared cameras, a spotlight, a water canon, and a loudspeaker. Covered in jet-black impact-resistant rubber, his robot patrols the streets, warning drug dealers to stay away. When they respond by throwing bottles at the robot, it returns fire with its water canon. A nearby Day Care center operator calls the robot Robo-cop while regulars at the bar refer to it as Bum-bot. Check out the AJC video of the robot in action. So next time you're in Atlanta, be sure to stop by O'Terrill's Pub, say hi to the robot, and tell them robots.net sent you.
