Want to build a NXT-based balancing robot like the one shown in the video above? You'll be needing an inertial measurement unit (IMU) and Dexter Industries has announced just what you're looking for. John Cole of Dexter Industries writes,

We wanted to show off our latest product: we're releasing an inertial motion unit (IMU) for the Lego Mindstorms NXT. Some of our testers have managed to do some really cool stuff, including a balancing Segway with the lego mindstorms NXT.

You can find all the details about the sensor, known as the dIMU, on the Dexter Industries website. The gyroscope works at three different precision levels: +/- 250, 500, or 2,000 degrees per second. Likewise, the accelerometer can work at +/- 2, 4, or 8 g. Both are 3 axis and the sensor is supported in NXT-G, RobotC, and Labview. Cost is $65 USD.
