Mickey’s Once Upon a Christmas is part one of a trilogy of Disney Christmas stories. Each film serves as a Christmas anthology of stories, and Once Upon A Christmas features three of such tales.

The first story is “Donald Duck: Stuck on Christmas”. In this short, you will find Huey, Dewey, and Louie breaking Christmas rules and opening presents before their family arrives. They play with their new toys much to Donald’s dismay.

Mickey Mouse and his friends once again come together to tell a heartwarming Christmas story. One of many Mickey-starred Christmas movies on Disney Plus, Twice Upon a Christmas is another holiday anthology. This movie has five stories instead of three, though.

In this movie, Donald Duck turns out to be a Scrooge for the holidays. He is unexcited about Christmas, and he seems to be taking people down with him. His friends make an effort to show him what the holiday is all about.

The first story is entitled “Belles on Ice”, where Daisy Duck is jealous of Minnie Mouse’s success in an ice skating competition. Also competing, Daisy makes sure she gets a cut of the audience’s attention and amazement. Unfortunately, this may come at Minnie Mouse’s expense.

The next story is “Christmas: Impossible”. Like the first film, it stars Donald Duck’s mischievous nephews, Huey, Dewey, and Louie. Its setting is at Scrooge McDuck’s mansion, where the Duck family celebrates Christmas Eve.

Following this flick is “Christmas Maximus”. Here, Max introduces his new girlfriend, Mona, to his father, Goofy. They celebrate the holidays together, but minor problems ensue.

The second to the last story features Donald Duck yet again. “Donald’s Gift” has Donald Duck missing his bus while daydreaming of a quiet Christmas.

The last story is titled “Mickey’s Dog-Gone Christmas”, where Mickey Mouse tries to decorate his house for the holidays. Much to his dismay, his pet dog Pluto keeps interrupting.

Of course, Mickey Mouse and his friends will not pass up on the chance of retelling A Christmas Carol. This Charles Dickens’ classic has had Muppet and 3D animated versions, so why not let the world’s most famous mouse take it for a spin?

This adaptation’s Scrooge is none other than Donald Duck’s Uncle, Scrooge McDuck. Both Scrooges are old, rich, and indulgent, so the casting is as expected. As with Dickens’ story, an old business partner visits Scrooge in the dead of the night. He warns the old man that three spirits are to visit him soon and that they are tasked to give him an important lesson on Christmas.

Disney fans will have a ball seeing easter eggs scattered throughout Mickey’s Christmas Carol. This goes especially for the movie’s casting. Goofy plays business partner Jacob Marley. The Christmas ghosts are played by Jiminy Cricket, Willie the Giant, and Pete.

This is a classic story of how our past and present selves need not affect our futures, as long as we are willing to change.

The Disney Holiday Sing-Along

The Disney Holiday Sing-Along

Less of a movie and more of a collated musical, the Disney Holiday Sing-Along is one to make you feel the true spirit of the holidays. The presentation is the holiday version of the Disney Family Singalong, which originally aired on NBC in early 2020.

The presentation featured a list of famous artists performing renditions of songs from classic Disney films. Take, for example, Josh Groban’s rendition of “You’ve Got a Friend in Me” from Toy Story or Beyonce’s “When You Wish Upon A Star” from Pinocchio.

Younger crowds will surely be delighted by performances from pop stars like Ariana Grande, Darren Criss, and Demi Lovato, to name a few. The film also features musical performances by actors from live-action versions of musicals like Aladdin, Beauty and the Beast, and High School Musical. Even the highly popular Korean boyband BTS makes an appearance.

Most of the performances were filmed right in the homes of the stars since production took place in the middle of the pandemic. But not to worry, because only the production value is affected and not the talent of the singers. The film also shows the lyrics to each song, so viewers at home can sing along.

This season’s challengers include the stars of the drama Zombies: Milo Manheim, Kylee Russell, Meg Donnelly, and Trevor Tordjman. All of the challenges take place within Disney’s Hollywood Studios at Walt Disney Resort.
