You might have already heard of free YouTube movies that you can stream on your desktop browser or your mobile phone. But what if you want to watch them offline — like when you’re on the plane or the road? During this, you might want to save data allowance and battery life (activating data on your phone consumes more battery). The best option is to download YouTube movies for free so you can watch them anytime, anywhere.
This, however, is only advisable to do for movies that are legitimately free on YouTube. Please note that some movies require you to digitally rent or purchase them. This guide does not promote illegal or unethical downloading of movies. It is only intended to help those who want to download the movies already available to the public.

How to Download Youtube Movies for Free on PC
If you’re looking to download any YouTube movies to watch for later, you won’t have any option on the website itself. You’re going to have to download a third-party app to watch movies on your PC.
We recommend the 4K Video Downloader. It’s a totally free software that lets you download videos and movies from YouTube that have up to 4K resolution. It also allows users to download an entire playlist, 360-degree videos, and even 3D videos.
If you want to know how this works, here’s a step-by-step guide:
1. Download the 4K Downloader
Download and install 4K Video Downloader here. Once finished, follow the instructions and check the box that indicates Launch, and click on Finish.
2. Copy and Paste URL on YouTube
Open your browser and find the video you want to download from Youtube. Copy the entire URL and paste it onto the 4K Video Downloader. Click on the green Paste Link button (it should be at the top left).
3. Choose From the Options
Once you’ve pasted the link, the software will then retrieve the video’s information. From here, you’ll be given a set of options with regards to the kind of quality you want to download. You can choose up to a 4k quality depending on the original video’s quality.
Please note that if you’re going to choose the highest movie quality to download, it’s going to take a lot longer than 10 minutes. Downloading a lower-res version of the video will take lesser time, but it’s not recommended. However, it could be a great alternative if you’re running out of storage space on your PC. Don’t worry, if you’re uncertain of the file size, hover your mouse to the left, it should show you the exact file size and how much space it’s going to take up your storage. Use this as your basis for which resolution to download in.
Another option they’ll give you is whether you’d like to download just the audio or the entire video itself. Choose from the drop-down menu on the left and the format on the right. You can download in MP4, MKV, and 3GP but we recommend using MP4 for video since it’s compatible with everything.
4. Choose the File Destination
On the downloader, choose the destination folder where your file will be saved. Once you’re okay, click on Download.
5. After Downloading
By this time, your video should be downloading. If the creator’s channel has other videos, 4K Video Downloader will ask if you want to download them as well. Keep in mind that you can only download up to 24 videos at a time.
Once your download is complete, you can find it in the destination folder where you saved it and you can play it from there. Alternatively, it’ll also be in the downloader where you can right-click and select Play whenever you want to watch it. It’ll stay there until you opt to remove it from the list.
6. Bonus: Use Smart Mode for Quicker Downloads
If you’re going to do this regularly, then we recommend checking out Smart Mode. It’s a setting that saves the format that you will usually download in (quality, file type, etc.). To turn it on, click on the light bulb icon in the top-right corner after you paste another URL. Your last settings will then auto-load into the downloader.
How to Download Youtube Movies for Free on Mac
If you’re downloading free YouTube movies on your Mac, then the best software available today is MacX YouTube Downloader.
The process for downloading should be roughly the same as that of the 4K Video Downloader on Windows. All you have to do is paste the link and choose the preferred quality. What shines here is there’s an option for you to download multiple videos at once. If you’re in a hurry to download more than a video, this is a great tool to get things done flawlessly.
