This guide is only for Xiaomi devices running a Chinese ROM that do not have Google services built in. If your Xiaomi device already has Google Play Store or was purchased outside of China, you do not need this guide. The essential prerequisite is installing Google Services Framework and Google Play Services before you attempt to install the Play Store. Your device must also be Play Protect certified by Google for full functionality and security; you will verify this at the end of the process.
Step 1: install Google Services Framework and Google Play Services
Before you can use the Play Store, you need the core Google services that support it. Download the Google Services Framework APK and the Google Play Services APK from a trusted source like APKMirror. Install the Google Services Framework first, then install Google Play Services. These two APKs provide the underlying system support that the Play Store requires to function, but if you want to avoid this setup entirely you can download Android apps without Google account.
Step 2: enable installation from unknown sources
MIUI and HyperOS do not use a global "Unknown Sources" toggle. Instead, you must grant permission to the specific app that will install the APK, such as your file manager or browser.
- Open Settings on your Xiaomi device.
- Tap Apps or App management.
- Select the app you will use to install the APK (e.g., File Manager or your browser).
- Tap Install unknown apps or a similar permission option.
- Toggle the permission to Allow.
This step lets that specific app install APK files from sources other than the official app store.
Step 3: download and install the Google Play Store APK
Now you need to download the app store itself. Go to APKMirror and search for the Google Play Store APK. Download the APK file to your Xiaomi device.
- Open your file manager and navigate to the downloaded APK file.
- Tap the APK file to start the installation.
- Tap Install when prompted.
- Wait for the installation to finish, then tap Open.
Step 4: sign in and verify Play Protect certification
Open the Google Play Store app and sign in with your Google account. After signing in, verify that your device is Play Protect certified.

- Tap About.
- Check the Play Protect certification status.
If your device is not certified, some apps may not work or may show as incompatible. Certification confirms that your device meets Google's security and compatibility standards.
