Random Robot RoundupPosted 2 Mar 2008 at 22:06 UTC by steve
Here's another roundup of stories from the editor's inbox. Enjoy. A
recent engadget
story included a video of Absolut
Quartet, a sort of robotic orchestral machine that incorporates ping
pong balls and spinning wine glasses. Roland Piquepaille sent links to
his latest blog posts on robot rats with a sense of
touch, the Wizkid
robot at the MoMA, and a plan to turn bacteria into cancer-fighting
machines. UK author Richard Evans wrote,
"Just thought I'd drop
you a line for your Random Robot
Roundup about my
blog. It gives background into the research I've done when preparing
for my books and my take on the direction of android development. Also,
there are some factual articles
at my website that
may be of interest - featuring interviews with Rod Brooks, Hiroshi
Ishiguro and Honda's ASIMO team." The Swirling Brain noticed a BBC story
about Kurzweil's latest optimistic prediction that machines will have
human-level intelligence by 2029. Mark Miller of homerobots.com sent a link to his
recent story on the Readybot kitchen
robot project. Know any other robot news, gossip, or amazing facts
we should report?
Send 'em our way please.
Did anyone else watch the WizKid videos? It's hard to tell just how capable it really is from them. The related blog post sounds great, but I'd like to hear from someone that has interacted with it or seen other videos than the MoMA show videos.
