Notes:

The Rossum Project is an attempt to foster the development of open-source software for robots. To do this, the web site provides some example open-source software (a mobile robot simulation) as well as trying to articulate the basic ideas of open-source software. My hope is that by helping to state the case for open-source robotics and demonstrating that there are areas in which the idea is practical, the Project will encourage other robotics enthusiasts to participate in this effort (whether through the Rossum Project or through projects of their own).
