You can also speed up your flight by holding the sprint key, which lets you cover large distances quickly.
While spectating, you are completely invisible to other players and mobs. However, other spectators appear as translucent floating heads, so you can see where they are looking. This is helpful when coordinating with friends during a build review or event observation.
Spectator mode limitations
Spectator mode is purely observational, so you cannot interact with anything. You cannot break or place blocks, open chests, use crafting tables, or click on any graphical user interface. Your inventory is also inaccessible, and you cannot pick up items or drop them. The Heads-Up Display is significantly reduced, showing only subtitles and chat messages. This means you will not see your health, hunger, or armor bars, so you cannot take damage or die while spectating.
When spectator mode became official in bedrock
Spectator mode was officially released in Minecraft Bedrock Edition with Update 1.19.50. Before this update, the mode required an experimental toggle to be enabled, which made it less accessible. Now it is a fully implemented feature, so you can switch to it using the command or the personal game mode setting without any extra steps. This change made spectator mode a standard tool for players who want to explore worlds without disturbing the environment, and you can even add resource packs to Minecraft bedrock to customize the look of your ghostly explorations.
