EOD Robot Usage on the Rise

Apparently the TALON Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) robots by Foster-Miller are doing their job nicely. The company just got their contract increased from 250 units to 1200. The $140k bots have been everywhere from Bosnia to Iraq, and even did some work at the World Trade Center disaster. Maybe they'll get a raise or extra vacation days for their hard work.

The contract is from September 2005. Talon and its chief competitor, iRobot Corporation's Packbot, have since received follow-on contracts as has a new, cheap $5,000 competitor called BomBot.
