You can watch Team USA basketball across FIBA tournaments and the Olympics, but the exact channel or streaming service depends on the event. For FIBA competitions starting in 2026, your primary destination to watch Team USA basketball is TNT Sports, with games airing on TNT, truTV, and TBS, and streaming live on HBO Max. This marks a major shift, as TNT Sports takes over from ESPN as the exclusive English-language U.S. home for FIBA events through 2029.
How to watch team usa basketball: your quick-start guide
Your immediate answer for watching Team USA basketball in FIBA tournaments is TNT Sports. Beginning in 2026, TNT Sports becomes the exclusive English-language U.S. broadcaster for FIBA events, including the FIBA World Cup and the FIBA Women's Basketball World Cup, a role previously held by ESPN. This means you will find live games on the TNT, truTV, and TBS cable channels, with every game also streaming on HBO Max, giving you a single, comprehensive home for all the FIBA action.
The new TV home: TNT, truTV, and TBS
TNT Sports has secured the exclusive U.S. rights to FIBA tournaments through 2029, a landmark deal that reshapes how fans access international hoops. This multi-year agreement covers all FIBA competitions, most notably the FIBA World Cup and the FIBA Women's Basketball World Cup, ensuring that Team USA's quest for global supremacy is broadcast across three major cable networks. The primary coverage will be split between TNT, the flagship sports network, with additional games and matchups airing on truTV and TBS, offering you extensive linear TV options to catch every game. This is a significant upgrade from the previous era, where ESPN held the rights, and it centralizes the viewing experience for the most passionate followers of international basketball.
Streaming Team USA games on HBO Max
For cord-cutters, HBO Max is the exclusive streaming home for all Team USA basketball games in FIBA tournaments covered under the TNT Sports deal. This means you can watch every live game from the FIBA World Cup and other FIBA events directly on the HBO Max platform, eliminating the need for a traditional cable subscription. The service provides a seamless, high-quality live stream, making it the most direct alternative for fans who have moved away from cable TV, and it ensures you won't miss a single possession, whether you're at home or on the go.
How to watch other Team USA events like the Olympics
It's crucial to understand that the TNT Sports deal is specifically for FIBA tournaments, not the Olympic Games. The Olympics are a separate rights package, and historically, they are broadcast on NBC and its streaming service, Peacock, in the United States. Therefore, while you'll turn to TNT and HBO Max for the FIBA World Cup, you'll need to switch to NBC or Peacock to watch Team USA compete for a gold medal in the Summer and Winter Olympics. This distinction is vital for managing your expectations and ensuring you have the right subscriptions for the specific event you want to watch.
