Building an Autonomous Hovercraft

Posted 10 Jan 2008 at 23:59 UTC by steve Share This

A recent instructables article provides step-by-step instructions on building an autonomous or remote-control hovercraft. The chassis is made from insulation foam covered with carbon fiber composite. A nylon skirt and a big brushless DC motor provide the hover power. Two smaller Rimfire brushless motors with variable pitch props provide thrust and steering. A PIC microcontroller is used along with a XBee wireless communications module for remote control. The robot also has ultrasonic range sensors. The article includes video of the finished robot hover over a snowfield.
