Notes: I am a Sr. Programmer specializing in legacy system integrations. My current project involves creating a web- based interface to a legacy mainframe application. I have little practical robotic experience. My current (and first) project is creating an autonomous robot to scoot around my tiled floor vacuuming up stray cat hair from my wife's two cats. If you've ever had a cat and hard floors, you know what I mean ;-) My weakest point right now is electronics. I've got a basic chassis made out of K'nex with to wheels driven by a simple gear reduced motor and a dpdt switch. My plan is to use sonar, scavenged from a polaroid, and ir to navigate and from my research, I think I'd like to use an OOPic controller since most of my professional work is object- oriented.

Well, I made my first circuit composed of more than a switch, battery and motor. This on has a switch, battery, resistor and led. Extraordinarily simple, but it was fun to watch the little diode light up. Without smoking and burning up, that is ;-)

I also got to practice with my multimeter and learned how to read the color codes on resistors. Now I'm ready to build R2-D2 ;-)

Baby steps...
