Notes:

I am a Windows IT administrator by day, and an amateur Linux developer, hardware hacker and computer hobbyist by night. I have been working on my first robot (Junkbot or J-bot) since Christmas '06, but due to cost and time work has been slow. I am currently finishing of the body or 'skin' of the robot, while I gather more money for extra sensors etc. The Robot is PC based with a homebrew parallel port controller. The PC boots from USB keyfob containing a custom version of Knoppix Linux, removing the need for a hard disk and many other power consuming components. I am also an avid user of MythTV, and hope to integrate my robot in to my (still in development) home automation / media network. Junkbot is basically a prototype, my first attempt towards a more versatile robot. I envision my final goal being much like the Astromech Droids of Star Wars, not in looks, but acting as a technical assistant, able to perform basic tasks autonomously, and provide assistance to a human companion.
