A reel of film from Fritz Lang's 1927 Metropolis containing a section
thought to be lost was
discovered recently at a cinema museum in Buenos Aires.
Claiming the title of the most expensive silent film of the time,
Metropolis is the story of a futuristic city where the major class
division is between laborers and the thinking elite. A gynoid robot is used in a
battle of forces to create a just society.
I've seen several of the "restored" versions but most of them are not much more than 90 or 100 minutes of the original 220 minute film. I'd love to finally the see the whole story. There's more info on the history of the film and why the footage was lost in the first place in the wikipedia article:
