The World’s First Robot Welly Wanger

According to an icNorthWales article, Welsh scientists have developed a robot Welly Wanger. Welly is European slang for a boot and a Wanger is slang for someone who throws things. Welly Wanging is strange sport in some European countries in which participants see who can throw boots the greatest distance. The robot is powered by a Citroen 2CV diesel engine that turns 2-meter spokes at 250 RPM, allows boots to be thrown up to 80 meters. The computer-controlled robot is designed to learn how to throw boots in much the same way that a child learns. The robot was designed and built by Richard Shipman and others at the  Department of Computer Science at the University of Wales. Photos of the construction and a local newspaper article are also available.
