VIA Arena has published a new interview with Tom Burick of White Box Robotics on the highly anticipated 914 PC BOT (no, it’s not here yet). We first reported on these amazingly cool-looking but unobtainable robots back in 2004 when they were targeted to sell for $599-699 and would be available in the summer of 2004. Since then the price has climbed to $1199-1699 depending on the configuration. A few prototypes exist and at least one was reviewed in 2005. White Box started taking orders in May 2005 but still hasn’t shipped any robots. They issued a public letter about the latest delays in December 2005. A White Box rep claims a limited number of robots will be delivered this May but also says “real manufacturing is planned to start in calendar Q4 [of 2006]”. These are still very cool looking bots so I hope Tom really does manage to deliver some product this time. For the latest news on White Box Robotics, check the 914 PC BOTS Community site.
