Conventional wisdom says the best way to follow a line using parts from a single Lego Mindstorms 2.0 robotics kit is to stay within the borders of the line, however that is not the fastest way to move along the line using the given parts. It is much faster to have the robot rotate across the line

By pivoting about one wheel back and forth like shown below in the film strip, the robot will travel down the line up to 30% faster.
