Hey Everyone; I guess for the time being, I am the only one working on this project. I've really gotten interested all of a sudden in building an underwater robot. I got the idea of using an electric water pump as a source of propulsion. Suck water in, shoot water out, move forward, etc. I'm not sure whether to try to make it remote controlled or autonomous. Frankly, I don't think I know enough about how remote controls work, and how to build my own to make this bot rc. I've named the project after the catfish because I envision it having some bump sensers in front like a catfish to help it maneauver around obstacles. I really don't know if this is going to work or not since I've only built one robot before and all it did was drive around. My brain just sort of started running with the idea. One of the problems I'm concerned about is that the thing might fill up with water and sink, or that the water would cause it to short circuit. I got a really cool idea for a sensor though. All it would do is to tell if the water has anything in it that conducts electricity. Basically, you have two metal prongs sticking out close to one another but not touching. One is connected to a power source, the other is connected to an led which is connected to the power source. If the water is conducting electricity, the led will go off. It might end up a useful way to get the bot to protect itself from short circuiting. I don't know, it's just an idea.
