I am a lecturer in the School of Philosophy and Bioethics at Monash University in Australia. One of my research interests is the ethical issues raised by advanced robotics and AI. I'm interested in the philosophical implications of taking seriously some of the more ambitious claims made for robots and AI. I have published several papers in the area, with more forthcoming. My publications on these topics to date are: "Killer Robots", forthcoming, Journal of Applied Philosophy. "The Turing Triage Test", Ethics and Information Technology. Vol 6. No. 4 (2004), pp. 203-213. "The March of the Robot Dogs", Ethics and Information Technology, Vol. 4. No. 4 (2002), pp. 305-318. "Androids" in Mitcham, Carl (ed.) 2005. Encyclopedia of Science, Technology, and Ethics. Detroit: Macmillan Reference USA. "Robots" in Mitcham, Carl (ed.) 2005. Encyclopedia of Science, Technology, and Ethics. Detroit: Macmillan Reference USA. I'm happy to email these to people who are interested, if you can't find them in the original publication. My current research is on the ethics of the use of robots in aged care.

Many thanks to whoever certified me to "journeyman", a level of participation I feel comfortable with! I hope that means that someone somewhere is reading one of my papers...

Well, I've just joined the community to see if I can encourage some more dialogue about the ethical and philosophical issues associated with robotics and AI. I'm a philosophy lecturer at Monash University in Australia. I have several publications in the area myself (see my account page). I'm hoping both to learn more about cutting edge robotics research and to encourage people to think seriously about the ethical implications of robotics applications.

Now I shall wait and see....
