Still waiting for an update on the Ugobe Pleo dinosaur robot as to when preorders will begin. In the meantime I'm laying out the design for a portal dedicated to the Pleo. I intend to have help documentation, tips and tricks information, and much more. In the meantime, I'm keeping a blog on my progress and including the occasional technical piece or feature brief on the Pleo Dinosaur.

Unfortunately the Pleo dinosaur robot has been delayed again. The original pre-order date for February 3rd 2007 has slipped and the new pre-order date will be announced some time this spring. Ugobe is making upgrades to Pleo's sensors by adding a chin sensor for tickling Pleo and several important cosmetic improvements to Pleo's eyes and skin.

WowWee has gone to the movies with a pair of robots that are really the original Robosapien robot done up in custom paint jobs and shells. They are the Spidersapien and Homersapien robots. Each comes with custom packaging and themed accessories, and are scheduled to be released along with, respectively, the upcoming Spiderman movie sequel and The Simpsons movie.

I just found out that WowWee has announced a brand new four legged robot spider robot called the Roboquad. It has a high accuracy object sensing and motion detection infrared system.

The buzz on the street for the CES 2007 show is that WowWee will definetly be demonstrating the the Flytech Dragonfly, the flying robot that flaps its wings, and may also show the mysterious Robosapien V3!

Here are some robots that are rumored to be at the show but there is very little known about them.

The Robopanda, WowWee's bear shaped mood changing robot. Troodas aur or RS Troodasaur, dinosaur robot possibly based on the MIT LegLabs Troody walking robot. Roboboa, potentially a snake robot with high accuracy vision. Exosapie n, a strange new robot that little is known about.

Check out the cool new video of WowWee's flying insect robot, the Flytech Dragonfly (see bottom of the page). This thing is amazing since it flaps its wings to fly and does not use propellers for thrust, only a tiny one in the tail for trim.

FYI, the Discovery Store has a Mindstorms Nxt Coupon that will save you $20 USD off the kit price. I believe this coupon is only good for U.S. and Canada though.

During the month of November, the top robot news reporter can win a free Discovery Roboreptile. The contest begins late tomorrow so visit Roboreporter today and start submitting now.

The Robosapien RS Media robot from WowWee Toys has just launched but only in UK based department store Debenham's. It will begin wider distribution after October 21. It does indeed run an embedded form of Linux. However, some of the software that is used to customize the robot runs only on PC's running Windows XP.
