Steve, please note that the mapping robots are not "built by Penobscot Bay Media", but purchased from MobileRobots Inc, an 11-year-old robot design and manufacturing company with thousands of robots sold around the world. The robot in question is called MapperBot and uses laser-based SLAM to develop the raster-based map, which can then be edited for human viewing and/or robot navigational purposes. You can see this and many more robot applications at www.mobilerobots.com. What Penobscot Bay Media does is to create interior building maps with MapperBot that they then expand to 3D and incorporate into GIS databases for space utilization and other purposes.
