Notes:
At 50 I'm just starting to get to grips with robotics. Ive built a few 'static' kit models and a small motorised K9 (Dr Who) I'm currently building Cybot (a kit of parts supplied fortnightly in blister packs on a magazine called Real Robots in the UK) although this is the younger end of the market, it has given me impetus to construct my very own robot, I will show it off shortly on this excellent web site.... I also run a simple web site - just to get the hang of it really, but also to include an A to Z of robots page.

Today I dismantled a Hard disk drive. I found the spindle motor has three contacts; therefore I suspect its a 3 phase bi-polar stepper motor. I will over time use this inside a small head (perhaps a dolls head), together with the passive infra-red detectors found in PIRs for burglar alarms, to detect and then follow a human entering a room. If anyone has some circuit suggestions I'm all ears (not literally!) (reg.joy@btinternet.com).
At present I am building CYBOT a `Real Robots' magazine kit. I have saved the parts from several issues so that I can have a building spree and see something movable, that way I keep the enthusiasm going (at least that's my theory).
