KORG Monotron

i will be the 1st to admit that i was not at all excited by the announcement of the Monotron ..for some reason it just didnt appeal to me, maybe because i have an MS-10 or maybe cuz it seemed like it was going to be kinda useless and shitty sounding.

well, after watching some demo vids and stuff like that, i was a bit more open to the idea, but still not sold.

now that i have found out about a price drop and it being engineered in mind to be customized and circuit bent, i have finally had a change of heart!

not to mention i finally got a good audio clip of how awesome the filter sounds!!!!

check it out for yourself....enjoy!

and yes, i'll be posting a demo of mine when i get it ;)

Annnnd .... im back

My lack of posting was not due to laziness, or even too busyness .... i was simply outta town, on tour with my band actually, and after only 2 days out, my internet card dies on the lap top! HOORAY!

Tour was great, but im looking forward to getting back into things here at home, getting ready for the upcoming METROCON robot fights, and spending some time in the lab finishing up some projects.

As usual, i'll keep ya posted....

Bluetooth is go!

I've been tinkering around in the lab with the parallax EASYBT bluetooth module... got it up and running with both the BOE BOT/BS2 and the Arduino.

here is what i used...and a look at my connections

char val; // variable to receive data from the serial port
int ledpin = 13; // on-board LED
void setup() {

pinMode(ledpin, OUTPUT); // pin 13 (on-board LED) as OUTPUT
Serial.begin(9600); // start serial communication at 9600bps

void loop() {

if( Serial.available() ) // if data is available to read
val = Serial.read(); // read it and store it in 'val'
if( val == 'L' ) // if 'L' was received
digitalWrite(ledpin, LOW); // turn OFF the LED
} else {
digitalWrite(ledpin, HIGH); // otherwise turn it ON
delay(100); // wait 100ms for next reading

i was unable to figure out how to set the com port on the arduino ide serial terminal, so i used and external terminal program (tera term) and it worked with ease!

Synth Rig

Over the weekend we had a video shoot for our soon to be released single "The Darkest Star" ... knowing the directors style (DARKHAK) i figured i would add to his vision by bringing some synths that were interesting to look at...here's the rig i used, he was pleased. *band = Deadstar Assembly

Synth on a scope

A few minutes of watching my Roland Sh-101 on a scope.... boring, hypnotic, and exciting all at once ... be a trooper and listen to the full 3min of mind warping bleeps and bloops!

It's Officially a shop!

Once you have sparks... you've got a shop!

We spent the better part of the weekend setting up the new workspace..
we got the welder / air compressor / tools moved in, and even managed to get a workbench built.

So far so good, had a few friends come over to check out the spot and everyone seems to be getting into the "gotta make something" spirit!

robot building space

South Florida Robotics Society & The Learned Nerd are proud to announce that we finally have a work space!!!!

Our space is a 10x25 industrial warehouse bay located in pompano beach... this is as bare bones, down and dirty as it gets for robot making..it's awesome!
this weekend we will be moving in the welder, air compressor, misc power tools, and tool boxes!
we will also be setting up some work stations, tables, and shelving.

For info on how to become a member of the South Florida Robotics Society, check out their site!

you can also add them on FaceBook (click here)
