Goldeneye 100 Passes Initial Tests

NewScientist.com says that a new type of UAV called the Goldeneye is capable of hovering like a helicopter and flying like a plane and has passed initial testing. Aurora Flight Sciences developed the Goldeneye 100. It is powered by a ducted-fan engine and looks like a big 50 gallon type drum with a fan inside and fins. In can take off vertically and then roll to it's side to fly horizontally like a plane. The craft can be controlled by a ground crew or fly autonomously. The likely uses for this craft are high-flying reconnaisance, surveillance, and target aquisition missions. This is yet more evidence that future flight will not be piloted!
