100 MIPS from an 8051

Cygnal Integrated Products, Inc. has announced what they claim is the highest performance 8051 chip ever made. The 100 MIPS C8051F120 CPU also includes 128K of Flash memory, 8K of RAM, a 12bit ADC, two 12bit DACs, a temperature sensor, five 16bit timers, 64 I/O ports, a JTAG port, and two UARTS. The cost of the chips ranges from $36 to $8 depending on quantity. A complete development kit with board and chip is $149.
