Phoenix to Rise Up and Fly to Mars

Posted 6 Aug 2003 at 02:40 UTC by The Swirling Brain Share This

Space.com has an article that rises up and says that NASA picked Phoenix to be the First Scout Mission Mars Lander. Nasa gave the University Of Arizona its biggest research grant in school history to the tune of $325 million to build some instruments on the Phoenix lander. The Phoenix will take off the Summer of 2008 and when it arrives at Mars' north pole, it will not rove, but it will dig in the ice with a robotic arm and try to find life. Nasa's selection of Phoenix means that other projects like the Mars plane won't be flying.
