A team of retired engineers who are members of the DCRC have built an autonomous
plane they hope will fly 2,000 miles from Newfoundland to Ireland, a 40
hour flight. The team includes a cartographer, a satellite technician, a
rocket scientist from the Apollo and Gemini projects, as well as experts
from other fields. The Washington Post has a story
on the endeavor. The robot plane, nicknamed The Spirit of Butts
Farm, has multiple onboard computers that will navigate based on GPS
data and send radio telemetry back to the teams ground equipment.
