Long Live Practical Robots

Posted 3 Jul 2003 at 01:15 UTC by The Swirling Brain Share This has an article about long live practical robots and Death to Cool robots. It seems that times are changing for robotics. They went from novelties and hobbiest's playthings and are transcending into practical uses. The stigma of owning a robot is dissapating and are finding place in the hearts of owners. We are starting to see beloved robots such as robotic vacuums that grandma may use or robotic lawn mowers for dad. Practical robots could take over to a point where we will see a robot like R2D2 or C3PO in every home. For some countries like Japan, robots are not seen as deadly Terminators, but as friendly household appliances and are often thought of fondly as pets and even given names as they do their chores. As robots gain acceptance, it will be cool to own a practical robot.
