A New Nurse Companion Bot

Posted 27 Jun 2003 at 03:22 UTC by The Swirling Brain Share This

A Salt Lake City Care Facility is getting the aid of a "Robot Nurse". It seems these days that there's a major shortage of nurses so companies are trying to fill the gap with robot nurses. The "Companion" telepresence robot nurse is put out by a company called InTouch Health. The idea is that one nurse can control an avatar telepresence robot to roam from room and check in on patients located in far away places or even in other states. The robot has an LCD video display to show a nice face to an otherwise freaked out patient who may think Arnold finally came back! There are many such Elderly or Geriatric robots such as the Wakamaru coming to market lately.
