Behavioral Robots that Reason and React

Posted 27 May 2003 at 03:36 UTC by The Swirling Brain Share This

Space Daily has an article about how Georgia Tech researchers are designing behavior-based robots that can reason and react. Georgia Tech researchers both in the Mobil Robot Lab and collaborating with the College of Computing are funded by DARPA to create machines that can make complex decisions. Short of claiming that they are "thinking" robots, they say that they think in a sense like the simple intelligence of how insects might make decisions about their environment. They are trying various techniques to help the robots learn and they are hopeful that their machines will become smarter and eventually they may even progress to basic androids.
