DARPA has announced a new cognitive research initiative that they hope will result in computational systems that "demonstrate levels of autonomy and reasoning far beyond those of todays systems". They also list as goals the ability to reason, learn, adapt, be self-aware, and have an imagination. The full annoucement is available in PDF format. For those of you who'd like to apply for funding under the initiative, more info is available in the BAA Solicitation Synopsis.

You can post this sort of thing in your diary, pantera. You'll have a better chance of it being seen by everyone there than in the discussion area for an unrelated article.
