Independent.co.uk has posted a review of Victoria Nelson's books The Secret Life of Puppets. This is yet another book dealing with the history of robotics and AI but with a twist. Nelson proposes that our pursuit of robots and androids comes not from technological or scientific roots but from pre-scientific superstitions and other "pre-modern assumptions".
