Evolution Robotics vs. Extinction

Posted 12 Feb 2002 at 15:36 UTC by steve Share This

Evolution Robotics has announced the creation of an "Open" Software Platform they claim will become the dominate personal robotics software platform. But an initial survey of their website indicates that this is neither Free Software nor Open Source software, but a proprietary (i.e. closed) software platform. There are plenty of other robotics platforms around that are actually Open/Free such as OROCOS, MCA-2, DRobot, OpenAI, AutoPilot, and OpenVTVL, (not to mention OPEN-R, Sony's proprietary - despite its name - personal robotics platform). As survival of the fittest plays out, we may see evolution in action.
