Need to connect IR proximity sensors to your Arduino-based robot? Then you need to read the latest post over at the uC Hobby blog. If you haven't settled on a controller for your robot, you might be interested to know about two new developments from VIA Technologies. The first is a new board form factor called the Em-ITX (PDF format) that's 30% smaller than the Mini-ITX but offers 200% more space for I/O ports and connectors. They also announced a new board called the IVP-7500 aimed at embedded auto applications but potentially useful for robotics too. It runs on 12V and needs no cooling fans. Doug Emes spotted a cool collection of robot illustrations. Nelson Bridwell sent a link to a new Scientific American article written by an optimistic Hans Moravec. From the Swirling Brain comes an io9 post about the Toshiba ApriAttenda with lots of photos, Paste magazine's list of the top 10 bionic characters, and an article on the odd Cajun Crawler personal transport. From reader Bill Rogers comes news of a pollution-detecting robot fish. Know any other robot news, gossip, or amazing facts we should report? Send 'em our way please.
