Air Force Robot Helps Archeologist

Posted 30 Aug 2001 at 14:46 UTC by steve Share This

Archeologist Ken Karsmizki is looking for an iron-framed boat that was built for the Lewis and Clark expedition of 1804-1806. Expedition records indicate that the one-of-kind boat failed on its first use and was later buried. Archeologists have been looking for the boat ever since. AP reports that Karsmizki's search is now being aided by an Air Force robot called AMRADS. The robot is equipped with a precision GPS system accurate to 4" and special electromagnetic sensors designed to locate buried objects. The original press release on the expedition is available.
