Researchers at Tokyo's Waseda University are testing the WAO-1 (Waseda Asahi Oral Rehabilitation Robot) designed to deliver therapeutic massages to fragile facial structures. Arms with balls attached are controlled by special software using feedback from multiple sensors to control pressure and motion. The research team is also planning to adapt the robot for use in spas across Japan to provide relaxation and beauty massages. Trials begin in November.
