Posted 27 Oct 2006 at 16:54 UTC by steve Share This

Tom Atwood let us know about Robot Magazine's coverage of the new Futaba humanoid robot. The robot was unveiled at the recent iHobbyExpo 2006. The new robot will be available in the US and Japan for around $1200 US. It feature 20 servos, 11 high-torque and 9 lightweight. Like most recent small humanoid robots, it's shipped as a remote controlled unit, leaving it up to the robot builder to convert it into a fully autonomous robot. For more on the Futaba robot, Lem Fugitt has posted additional photos and even a YouTube video of the robot in action over at Robots Dreams.

I wonder how cheaply you could make something similar for? There seem to be a few similar robots on the market right now perhaps if enough get released then the price will drop.

Cost equals Delay and Public do not buy for years., posted 31 Oct 2006 at 13:49 UTC by marev » (Observer)

WHEN BIG COMPANIES make small robots and put the price high for them they must realise that the idea and sales will not catch on with the public until the machine is outdated and costs far less.

Nice apart from cost., posted 4 Nov 2006 at 19:46 UTC by Goodrobot » (Journeyer)
