Bionic Arms and Jumping Robot Legs Posted 15 Sep 2006 at 15:38 UTC by steve
The Swirling
Brain sent us a link to a recent Slashdot
story on Toyota's
new robot leg that is said to "jump like a human". Toyota said,
seriously, that developing the jumping leg "was a difficult step for
robots". I would have thought it was big leap forward too. No info
about the new leg is available on the Toyota
Robotics website yet but it will probably show up soon. If you're
needing some bionic arms to go with those new robot legs, we've got
you covered. Roland
Piquepaille
writes, "today, the Washington Post reports that a new life is
within reach for the first woman with a thought-controlled bionic arm.
This bionic arm was designed at the Rehabilitation Institute of Chicago
with funds from DARPA. This artificial arm could provide hope for the US
troops in Iraq and Afghanistan who have had wounds that cost them at
least one limb."
"a difficult step", "leap forward", "within reach".
Ugg. I'd give an arm and a leg for great jokes like that!
Like on the uk sky news prosthetic limbs story today,10 of millions
probably saw it,these same sort of advanced limbs not just benefit
soldiers limb losses but apply also to diabetic patients lost limb
replacements along with a host of other medical conditions, the answer.
