RobuROC 6 Multifunction Mobile Robot

Posted 19 Jun 2006 at 21:09 UTC by steve Share This

Robosoft recently sent us a few details about their newly released all-terrain outdoor mobile robot platform called RobuROC 6. The robot has six wheels, two on each of three articulated chassis sections. The robot has a runtime of 3-5 hours depending on load and can carry up to a 100kgs. The robot is designed to accept a variety of options such as vision systems, laser systems, IR or ultrasonic sensors, wireless communications, and manipulators. The robot uses a combination of an embedded Motorola controller and an industrial PC running Linux. For more details, see the brochure (PDF format).

Too expensive, posted 20 Jun 2006 at 10:58 UTC by motters » (Master)

I would dismiss much of this kind of thing out of hand purely on the basis of cost. What I'm looking for - the holy grail of robotics if you will - is something which is rugged and reliable but costs about the same as a decent desktop PC. I think it's only once machines are available in that sort of price range that robotics will really begin to take off.

For anyone with any business sense out there it's probably well worth doing some research on producing a low cost mobile robot platform, for use in homes or offices. I'm sure it can be done, and all the necessary technologies are here.
