Lost in Space Robot B9 ReplicasPosted 4 Apr 2006 at 20:12 UTC by steve
Space Productions
is mass producing replicas of the Lost in Space B9 robot. The first 10
B9s were recently completed and 5 have already been sold for $18,000
each. While the new replicas have more
functionality than previous
replicas, they're still pretty much static display units with lights and
sound rather than real robots. However, the track
assemblies appear to
be real, so it might be possible to hack one and turn it into a
functional robot without too much cost. The original B9 was created by Robert Kinoshita, who
also design Robby. Fred Barton
Productions has been selling handmade B9 replicas which range in
price from $15,000 to $29,000 for several years. Fred also offers
replicas of
other famous movie robots including Robby, Gort, Silent Running
drones, Maria, C-3PO, even a T2-endoskeleton. If you can't afford an
off-the-shelf B9, how about a homebrew B9? If you
need help or parts, try the B9 Robot Builder's Club.
